Our first family vacation // Maui 2014

A trip we had much anticipated has come and gone. Last week we spent 8 days on the beautiful island of Maui, a trip we will never forget. When my parents offered last year to take us to Maui in the Spring as a gift, we couldn’t say no (obviously ; ) At the time I wasn’t pregnant, emma was only a distant dream. The thought of taking a 15 month old on an almost 6 hour plan ride to Maui seemed a bit adventurous, but we were up for the challenge (…again, who’s going to say no to a free trip to Maui!). Fast forward a few months- we find out we are pregnant with sweet baby girl. Doctors don’t want you traveling oversees after 25 weeks… we did the the math and realized I would be 33 weeks during our travels… hmm, to cancel or take a risk?? Well, by the picture above, I think it’s pretty clear what our decision was. As the days lead up to our trip, I was a little anxious about the whole thing, entertaining thoughts of “what ifs.” At the end of the day, God is in control and so we decided to go. And boy are we glad we did. By no means is traveling with a baby  while 33 weeks prego easy (there were tears and a few sleepless nights… and 2 very very long plain rides with a fussy boy), but I wouldn’t have traded that week for the world. Getting to spend endless amounts of quality time with my boys was a truly priceless gift coming off of a heavy ministry season and with the anticipation of baby girl’s arrival in the coming weeks. Our days consisted of pool time, sand castles on the beach with daddy, naps, countless visits to the Koi pond to say “hi” to the fishies, yummy meals, even yummier drinks, date nights (2 in 1 week!… a tip for free, travel with grandparents ; ), Choo-Choo train ride through the sugar plantation, a visit to the Maui trash yard to see a real life trash truck (a side of Maui i never thought I’d see… but when you have a son who loves trash trucks and a father in law who manages a trash company in Maui, hey why not!) shave ice, and more naps. A week I will forever be grateful for, our first family vacation.
